And the last 26 years as Consultant in Al Zahra Hospital and we are delighted m Dr. Urmil Verma has now joined Institute for Biophysical Medicine in Dubai Healthcare City in September 15, 2014.
Dr. Verma did her MBBS in the year 1967 from Lady Hardinge Medical College and Hospital, Delhi, India, Which is one of the most prestigious and the oldest institution in India. After finishing her internship and house-job, She spend one year on writing a thesis on Mal presentations and their fetal and maternal outcome from the same institution.
Prior to coming to the UAE, she spent 11 years in UK. She is both a fellow and a member of Royal college of Obstetrician and Gynaecologists of London in November 1973. She has also done special training and obtained her Diploma in Family Planning. While in the UK, Dr. Verma amassed vast experience in Obstetrics and Gynecology, working in some of the biggest teaching and general hospitals there. All along, she has made continuous efforts to update her knowledge by attending workshops and medical conferences in different parts of the world, especially in UK, USA, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Chille and Europe . She has kept pace with advances in medical technology. She has trained in endoscopic procedures – diagnostic & operative laparoscopy, colposcopy and hysteroscopy from Germany, USA and UK. She has been to UK and Australia ( Sydney ) to master the latest techniques for treating specially selected cases of painful heavy periods in which all medical management has failed. These techniques – “Uterine Balloon Therapy” and NOVASURE ENDOMETRIAL ABLATION avoid the need for hysterectomy.
She is a member of British Society for Endoscopic Surgery. She got full registration with license to practice in UK with GMC (General Medical Council) of UK.
Recently she has been attending conferences and keeping up-to-date with the latest development and advancements made in anti-aging medicine and the use of Bio-identical hormones, management of Age Related disorders and life-style diseases, which is commonly being practiced all over USA and it is catching up in the other parts of the world. She is trying to incorporate it in her practice here in UAE. Dr/Mrs. Verma has a key interest in cervical cancer screening and its prevention as well as menopause and its associated problems including HRT, with special emphasis on the prevention of osteoporosis. To this end, she has consistently made efforts in increasing public awareness for regular annual checkups for women and the role of screening in prevention of diseases especially cervical and breast cancer, and debilitating osteoporosis. She has been on radio talk shows and has delivered talks to various susceptible groups. She is also been involved in teaching juniors, nurses and the GP’s.
As an obstetrician over all these years she has dealt with innumerable cases of complicated pregnancies, deliveries and post-delivery complications. Patients with previous bad obstetric histories, long periods of infertility and with congenital uterine abnormalities have been taken care of and have had babies.
Some years ago, a woman with a very rare congenital abnormality, a double uterus – the first of its kind in UAE – delivered a baby at Al Zahra Hospital under her care and has had her second baby too since. She has been here so long that she has delivered mothers and their daughters and daughter-in-laws and so much so that some of the baby girls and boys delivered by her have had their own babies delivered by her too!.
All patients booked under her for delivery are followed until six weeks after delivery when they have the postnatal checkup including Pap Smear (screening test for cancer of cervix) and Contraceptive advice.
Dr. Verma amassed vast experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, working in some of the biggest teaching and general hospitals in UK from June 1971 to August 1981.
English, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi and Arabic
