Dr Mohamad AL-Lami

Dr Mohamad AL-Lami is a British Citizen completed his undergraduate study from the University College of Medicine in 1994 with Merit degree in General Medicine & Surgery. He successfully progressed and completed his postgraduate basic and higher surgical education and training in the UK and was awarded the fellowship from the intercollegiate examination board of the Royal College of Surgeons in trauma & orthopaedic in 2006 and Certificate of Completion of Higher Surgical Training in Orthopaedic (British Board in Trauma & Orthopaedic) in 2007. Dr Al-Lami completed three fellowships in Trauma, Lower Limb Arthroplasty and Sport Medicine in the UK and Germany. He was appointed as substantive consultant trauma & orthopaedic surgeon at South Tees NHS Trust in 2008. After successful career in the Uk, he moved to the Sultanate of Oman in 2010 holding the position of Senior Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Khoula Hospital, the main tertiary, level 1, hospital in trauma & orthopaedic in the Ministry of Health and the third largest trauma hospital In the GCC. In 2012, Dr Al-Lami, in recognition for his vision and achievements, he was awarded the prestigious position of the head of orthopaedic department at Khoula Hospital and the Chief of Service of Orthopaedic Surgery across the country for the Ministry of Health Hospitals. He conducted his private practice at Muscat Private, Starcare Hospitals and Ibn Zuhur Polyclinics in Oman. His main subspecialities of interest include; lower limb joint replacement surgery (Hips, Knees “Primary & Revision”, minimal invasive and navigated knee replacement surgery) and sport medicine surgery (hip, knee and ankle arthroscopy, knee and ankle ligament reconstruction including ACL and multi-ligament surgery). Over his career, Dr Al-Lami has performed over 6000 surgeries and pioneered several surgical procedures and fast tack post-surgical recovery. He always adapted current concept and cutting edge approach in his treatment and management of patients and strongly believes in the concept of good medical practice and evidence based orthopaedic for which he awarded a higher professional degree in 2001.

Dr Mohamad Al-Lami has developed a special interest in the clinical management of osteoporosis and the conservative and less invasive approach for the management of joint pathology saving the native joint campaign including cartilage therapy and biological treatment.

Dr Mohamad Al-Lami holds the medical licence in the UK, Germany, Oman & UAE. He is a member with good medical standing for the following organisations and associations; General Medical Council – UK, Royal College of Surgeons -UK, British Orthopaedic Association, British Trauma Associations among others.

He is a recognised international expert in his field. He is well published in his field with over 21 research publication in his name in an internationally renowned peer review journals with several audit & research projects in the pipeline for publication.

Dr Al-Lami is an international faculty and expert & gust speaker in various high profile meetings across Europe, Asia and Middle East. He also organised and chaired various international meetings in Trauma & Orthopaedic surgery for the last 8 years. More recently the chairman of the scientific committee for the international Panarab meetings in association with Iranian, Greek and Turkish orthopaedic associations in Muscat and Beirut and Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association Meeting in India.

Dr Mohamad AL-Lami has long passion and enthusiasm in training & education and teaching of undergraduate students, post graduate residents and international fellows in his field of interest. He was awarded the title of Senior Lecturer at Sultan Qaboos University, Oman in 2010 and Chairman of Oman Medical Speciality Board in Orthopaedic in 2014 and the Educational Supervisor for the postgraduate trainees in Khoula Hospital. He is an international faculty in various cadaveric courses in joint replacement surgery, sport medicine and AO reconstruction. He has over 120 national and international talks and lectures across the globe.

Dr Mohamad Al-Lami is the advocate of the principle of “Every One Deserve to Shine” and “Global Thinking” in collaboration with group of thinkers and researchers across the continent.

Dr Mohamad Al-Lami is the liaison principle for SICOT fellowships and Khoula Hospital was awarded the prestigious SICOT training & Education Centre in 2014 under his supervision and leadership where the hospital receives fellows from all over the countries to be trained in various aspects in trauma & orthopaedics.

During his career in orthopaedic surgery, which is spanning over 18 years, Dr Mohamad Al-Lami has received several national and international prestigious awards for his service, presentations and appreciation awards for his achievements at the Ministry of Health in Oman especially in regards to the development and promotion of service, surgical expertise and training & education.

Dr Mohamad Al-Lami is the founder and the current chair person for Oman National Joint Register, the first of its kind in the region and sixth internationally. During his career he held several clinical and managerial positions keeping his surgical and training & education passion on the top of his agenda and the main goal of his clinical and academic life.

Finally, Dr AL-Lami is a passionate international traveller, cultural exposure enthusiastic person and adventurer. He enjoy reading poem and philosophy, sport and socialising.
